Chatham Kitchen

Overview:

This bowling alley kitchen is a huge part of their life. The owner is a great cook, and the family gathers in the kitchen. The challenge was to create a space to gather while not impeding the cook in the kitchen. Also, the length of the kitchen can make this project challenging because you can't place essential items at each end of the kitchen. It has to be created in zones. Another challenge in this kitchen was the construction. It was remodeled at least once or twice in the past, and we had our fair share of surprises as we opened up floors and walls to expand and clean up the kitchen lines. One great surprise was uncovering a brick wall that we could highlight as part of the remodel.

Materials:

  • Bishop Cabinets, Door style - Utica, Wood species - Birch, Painted - Ellie Gray.
  • Countertop -- Cambria quartz, Color -- Brittanicca.
  • Other Countertop materials - Natural Maple Butcher Block.
  • Flooring - Hardwood 2-1/4" red oak sanded and finished in place in a light stain.
  • Backsplash - Cloe Subway Wall 2-1/2" x 8" in White.
  • Sink - Farm Sink Kohler Whitehaven
  • Faucet - Delta Touch, Essa model, Arctic Stainless finish

Kathleen Court Kitchen

Overview:

We remodeled this client's bathrooms previously, and she was ready with lots of details like four-color arabesque tile backsplash and wood accents on the island when it came to the kitchen remodel. It was simply a joy to return and begin another remodeling project for such a sweet person. The project was both fun and challenging. Not only did we remodel the kitchen, but we also renovated the family room, giving it some much-needed brightness, color, and warmth.

We also installed a projector screen in the ceiling that drops down with a touch of a button. This projection TV is for the family hangout time that means so much to our client. We were so glad to install it and clean up the room's look and give it the new life she wanted.

Challenges:

When we pulled up the carpet in the family room, we discovered the concrete pad had cracked and settled around the perimeter. After the concrete was patched, we were able to resume our hardwood floor install. We installed engineered hardwood over the concrete and solid hardwood in the kitchen and tied it into the existing hardwood in other rooms. Then sand, stain, and three coats of urethane later, we had a beautiful new floor blending old and new. We had planned to install the same four colors of tile in the family room fireplace then discovered one color was no longer available, so we needed to pivot yet be sure the two rooms blended, which came out amazing. The four-tile pattern is fun but very time-consuming to follow the pattern. Again, it is gorgeous!

  • Sink -- Kraus stainless undermount
  • Faucet -- Delta Trinsic model, Arctic Stainless finish

Wilderness Road Kitchen

Overview:

This is the first of two projects, we remodeled the bathroom a year later. The kitchen footprint was small but had the potential to be so much more. We moved a couple of appliances around to improve the layout and to take full advantage of the space to create a beautiful and very functional kitchen. The island is simply stunning and the heart of this gorgeous new room. We installed hardwoods in the kitchen and extended them into the family room. The warm tone of the hardwoods gives the bright white cabinets the warmth it needs to create both a bright yet comfortable space to work and enjoy.

Challenges:

We knew going in there was a dip in the floor that we needed to remove but were not sure precisely the solution until we could demo and take up the existing floor. By adding a beam to the basement and building up the low spot, we could remove the dip and end up with a beautiful sand-in-place floor.

  • Countertop -- Q Quartz, Color -- Calcatta Verona
  • Flooring - 2-1/4" oak hardwood sand and stain in place stained medium.
  • Backsplash -- Carrara Marble 2x4 polished.
  • Sink -- Allora D-shaped Single bowl, Stainless undermount.
  • Faucet -- Delta Touch, Essa model, Arctic Stainless finish
